About Me

I’m Abby, a 20-something healthcare public relations professional living and loving life in the First State. I’m a wife, proud Blue Hen alumna, half-marathon finisher, avid (and an increasingly avid !), and political junkie. I can’t eat a food or look at a recipe without thinking “I wonder how I could make this healthier…”

That’s me enjoying an amazing “healthy” meal before my bachelorette party!

But, let me stop there. I learned along the way that “healthier” doesn’t always mean “reduced fat.” It doesn’t mean “100-calorie pack” or “Lean Cuisine.”

I lived like that once. I was afraid of all fat, and I avoided nuts, hearty grain breads, cheese, beef, or anything else that really had fats like the plague. I worked out religiously, counted calories, and formed some pretty unhealthy habits that were pretty hard to break.

Today, I still work out pretty regularly, and I still consider calories — I think those things are important to developing a healthy lifestyle. But, I’ve learned a lot about the importance of “healthy” fats, how protein triumphs over “low-cal” every time, and that indulgences are the most important part of a healthy lifestyle. (If you’re not enjoying some Ben & Jerry’s or chocolate cake once in a while, you’ve got things all wrong!)

When it comes to food, I have a love affair with oatmeal and peanut butter and an insatiable aversion to macaroni ‘n’ cheese. (Ick. Just writing about them makes me a little quesy.) I love looking forward to every meal and increasingly try to create recipes and concoctions that I’ll be excited to eat.

So, enjoy! I look forward to sharing my cooking adventures, fitness triumphs (and fails!), and life with all of you!

  • Thanks for the shout out today on twitter! Your background is SO similar to my own – glad you made the transition from fat-free/low cal/lean cuisine etc. to eating REAL food. So important & such a process at the same time! Nice to “meet” you!

  • Wow, it’s not very often I find another Delawarean!!! Me too! haha. Such a small little state :) We probably have mutual friends! Loving your blog! (Just started mine so I’m still learning ;)
